We as Americans have become so disillusioned and debased from what is moral and just that we no longer look to those with power to effectuate change. We take to, what is effectively cyberbullying each other when someone is even slightly off base from our own beliefs, instead of being even slightly politcally active. We guzzle social media slop and content instead of being active in our communities. We do literally anything but stare into the eyes of our elected officials and say: “fucking do something!”

But what are we to do? Time and again in the 21st Century we’ve been shown that the ‘haves’ can have and the ‘have nots’ be damned. Sold too many scum mortgage backed securities? Don’t worry comrade, the Duma will sign legislation to bail you out. Caught with some pot in the 00s? To the privatized gulag for you! Lie about ‘weapons of mass destruction,’ costing American lives and surely committed a couple war crimes along the way? Do not worry, sir, we’ll get you to paint water colors of the brave men and women you sent to die for a lie. Maybe even get Mrs. O to like you, you weren’t so bad after all, just misunderstood. Break a bone or need medicine? Not to worry the payment plan office is down the corner and to the left. Or, we’re actually doing a promotion, lucky day! Yes, we set the bone and give you the medicine for free but it will just cost the left kidney…or the right….whichever one is better, don’t worry we’ll check. Donations for services is down the corner and to the right, have a nice day!

Finally! The latest and greatest of them all….ope, this just in: it killed itself. Moving on nothing to see here, shoo shoo.

Folks, when are we gonna realize it isn’t left or right? It is not conservative versus liberal. It has and always will be those with power imposing their will on those without power. Those that wish to only accrue and consume and consume and accrue while leaving nothing left for anyone else. Siphoning your hard earned money away from you and to their even more rich and even more powerful friends. Denying you healthcare when their own healthcare plans are paid for by YOU and ME!

I’m not asking you to abandon your principles. In fact, I’m glad you have some, because the people that we’ve elected to lead the 21st Century have none. What I’m asking of you is to look in the mirror and then look at our government. Do you see your values reflected in it? If a family member was acting the way they are, would you continue to invite them over without at least addressing some of the things they have done? Are we no longer decent enough to draw the line anywhere? Or have we just seen and endured too much to not even know where to begin?
